HLOOKUP Function

Do you need to fetch certain values from a list searching horizontally? Than HLOOKUP function is for you.

We previously have covered how to look for a value in a list searching vertically. It is being done with VLOOKUP function. Now we are going to discuss how to look for a value in a list, searching horizontally with HLOOKUP function.

HLOOKUP function is very similar to VLOOKUP function. It looks for the value you give it in the range you specified. If it finds the corresponding value, it fetches it.

Here is a hands on example:

We have a weekly sales summary table for our products.

For our reports, we need to fetch certain values from this list. Here are some examples:

=HLOOKUP(J3;C3:AA5;3;0)

Looks for corresponding value in pen row for W08.

=HLOOKUP(“W08”;C3:AA5;3;0)

Same result. Notice that you can use value instead of cell reference when searching.

=HLOOKUP(G3;C3:AA7;5;0)

Looks for corresponding value in ruler row for W05.
