Multiply or Divide a Range of Cells with Same Number Without Formulas

Sometimes you may need to multiply or divide a range of cells with same number, such as 1000 or -1 (making all of them negative). Here is a quick tip about how to do it very fast and easily.

Let’s say you have a basic profit calculation with all values listed as positive. You prefer to see costs as negative values and do it quickly. Here is how you can multiply or divide a range of cells with same number without using formulas:

Our data: In order to make costs negative values, we need to multiply our costs with -1. To do this, input -1 into any empty cell. And copy it. Select the range of cells to be multiplied. Open “Paste Special” menu. And select multiply and press OK. You can see the values are now negative: As you see, this operation will also copy formatting of the multiplier cell. Therefore, it can be useful to format your multiplier cell before the operation. This way you will not need to re-format your cells afterwards.

Same steps can also be applied for division. Only difference is the selection in the last step. If you select Divide instead of multiply, your values will be divided.
