Picture Link

Here is another useful feature of excel. Picture link or “Paste as linked picture”. Lets see how it is done and what are the benefits.

Picture links are useful for following situations:

  • When you need to display a cell or a range of cells or a chart in several places in same workbook
  • When you simply don’t want people to mess with your calculated tables and charts

To create a picture link, all you need to do is to follow a simple two steps approach:

  1. Select a range of cells that contains what you want to show in picture form (a table, a chart, etc.) and copy it (Ctrl+C).
  2. Paste it where you want your picture link to be located as paste special/paste as linked picture.

That is all it takes to create picture links. Now you can put them anywhere on your worksheets or even call them using certain functions and show on demand.

PS: It is a very good practice to make your picture link also named ranges this way using them with formulas will be very fast and easy.
